Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this pattern making class:

Learn how to create block sloper patterns using flat pattern-making techniques together with the art form of draping. This 8-week course is ideal for those beginners or experienced sewers who lack this technical training.

Within 8 weeks, you will build a foundation of slopers and pattern-making understanding that you will be able to utilize once you have completed the course. Once you master this art, design to your heart's content.

Some designers perfect their work on the table using flat pattern alone. But you'll also learn the excitement of designing in 3D and seeing your ideas come to life right in front of your eyes through draping.

Skills & Techniques:
  • Learn to accurately measure and fit the body form
  • Understand the fundamental concepts of draping on a dress form
  • Drape basic bodices, skirts, dresses
  • Explore draping techniques
  • Learn to draft personal slopers (block patterns) for bodice, skirt, sleeves, etc
  • Learn to make pattern adjustments and alterations
  • Complete finished production patterns
Pre-requisites:
  • Some sewing experience is necessary.
  • If none, it is recommended that the student registers for Learn to Sew in a Day Class.
Important Things to Note:
  • This course will give you all the basic skills you need to create - bodices, sleeves, skirts and dresses.
  • On an industry dress form, you'll learn how to measure a body properly and create garments using draping skills and techniques.
  • Also, learn how to do simple changes to a basic pattern, aka the sloper (the fashion term for your basic pattern block).
