Join our photography workshop at Storm King State Park, one of the outstanding locations in our rotation of Hudson Valley venues offering exceptional photographic opportunities. This 500-acre landscape features luxurious natural scenery and spectacular views of the Hudson Valley mountains, complemented by striking neo-expressionistic sculptures that create a surreal artistic environment.
Historical Context and Starting Point:
All Hudson Valley shoots begin at Digital Photo Academy, located at 15 Powder Mill Rd., Newburgh, NY 12550, with a preparatory lecture before your in-the-field session. Weather permitting, we can explore the grounds across the street, featured on the National Historic Register for its significance as a gunpowder mill operating from 1815 to 1901. During its peak years, the mill produced approximately 49 tons of gunpowder annually. Historical records document 49 powder explosions throughout the mill's operation. Visit the Digital Photo Academy headquarters to see Mr. Smith's tombstone by the fireplace, a poignant reminder of the site's hazardous history.
Course Structure and Exploration:
Each Composition in the Field class begins with experienced instructor preparation, followed by exploration through photogenic locations in 20+ cities across the United States and Canada. You will participate in a rewarding three-hour session, learning strategic shooting approaches and capturing more compelling photographs. The course provides a foundation for improving your photography in future travels, events, and everyday situations.
Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy:
If weather or circumstances beyond our control require class cancellation, we will cheerfully work with you to reschedule. Should you need to cancel and require a new class date, contact us promptly. A $25 transfer fee applies without three days notice before your scheduled class.
