Experience our photography instruction at the historic Gomez Mill House, a standout location within our diverse collection of Hudson Valley venues featuring outstanding photographic subjects.
The Gomez Mill, dating back to the 1700s, has been restored to showcase its original features, including a waterfall and the spinning paddle wheel that formerly powered the printing house. Throughout every season, this site displays remarkable visual appeal; whether it's the brilliant autumn foliage, the pristine winter snow, or the delicate spring flower blooms, the location consistently offers compelling subject matter for photographers.
Please bring your DSLR, mirrorless camera, or another capable device you regularly use. Ensure your batteries are fully charged and carry all equipment you can manage comfortably. Dress appropriately for the weather conditions, wear sturdy walking shoes, and bring drinking water.
Every Composition in the Field class starts with an orientation session conducted by one of our skilled instructors, after which you and your classmates take a guided walk through one of several visually interesting locations (from among the 20+ cities covered by the DPA). Photography opportunities encompass street scenes, spectacular architectural interiors, farmers' markets, zoo subjects, landscape views, and more. The image examples throughout the course materials represent a mix of work created by both students and instructors across multiple locations and cities spanning the United States and Canada.
You will have an enjoyable experience during the three-hour outing while learning how to approach photography strategically. You'll produce more distinctive photos compared to casual snapshots, and you'll build the skills necessary to create better photographs going forward, whether you're documenting your travels, capturing moments at celebrations, or photographing events in your daily life.
Please note: If weather or other circumstances beyond our control require class cancellation, we will gladly help you reschedule. If you need to cancel and request a different class date, please reach out. A $25 transfer fee applies if you don't provide a cancellation notice at least three days before the scheduled class.
