What you'll learn in this drawing class:
Portrait Drawing (3 sessions) with Artist Edmond Rochat - Mondays, April 17th, 24th and May 1st, - 6:30 -9:30pm all sessions.
Students will improve in three main areas of portrait drawing in this course: proportion/gesture, perspective and lighting form.
Each session starts with a demonstration by the instructor clearly showing what students will achieve during the session. Drawing from a live portrait model, students receive individual guidance from the instructor. This class presents portrait drawing in clear technical methods so rapid improvement can be accomplished. By working with clear objectives students will see significant growth in their work.
Session 1: Students will capture an accurate likeness by seeing the larger masses of a portrait. The session focuses on the major proportions and gesture of the sitter.
Session 2: Students will use linear perspective to give their portraits a sense of three dimensionality. Diagrams of the head are presented to illuminate the features and to improve drawing details.
Session 3: This session focuses on the dynamics of light and shade. Students learn to control value structures to mimic these dynamics in their drawing.

This class is for people who have drawn from a live model before such as advanced beginners and intermediate students.
Drawing New York’s goal is 'to meet the student where they are'. Our instructors are able to work with each student at the their level, including advanced students.

Instructor Biography: Edmond Rochat, a figurative artist, studied painting, drawing, and sculpture at duCret School of Art, The Art Students League of New York, and Janus Collaborative School of Art. He supplemented his studies as a lab assistant for advanced artistic anatomy offered by Janus Collaborative School of Art and hosted by Drexel University School of Medicine. Rochat received the Mary Elizabeth Scholarship from the New Jersey Society of Arts and letters, The Dr. Furman Fink Award for portraiture and is a recipient of the Stobart Foundation fund. He was also awarded a grant from the John F. and Anne Lee Stacey Scholarship Fund, which he used to study Greek and Renaissance sculpture at the Slater Memorial museum. His works have appeared in the Persimmon Hill Journal and published in The Visual Language of Drawing: Lessons on the Art of Seeing. He has taught at The Art Students League of New York and maintains a studio in the Bronx New York.

Refund Policy
No refund unless the school cancels the class.
We do honor change-of-date requests for in-person sketch classes with at least 5 business days' notice and for workshops with 8 business days' notice.
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
