What you'll learn in this drawing class:

The Charles Bargue master drawings are a series of prints ranging from simple to more advanced drawing.  Their purpose is help train the eye of the student to understand the effects of light and shadow and the illusion of form.

In this class, students are shown how to reduce form into a simplified straight line construction, and soon the student progresses to rendering the form through light and shadow. This important class teaches students how to organize their drawing more effectively. Many of the old master's have copied from these plates in order to sharpen their skills. This class will surely sharpen your skills as well!

Question from Anonymous
What is covered in the curriculum? How many plates? Do you cover the starting plates 1-4, or only the later ones? Does this class give a foundation to do the entire Bargue set independently? Thanks!
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
HI there! The class is customized to each individual just like every other class the school conduct. When a student enters Decorus Atelier of Figurative Art they can be assured much more personal attention than a typical classroom or instructor can usually provide. What this means to the Bargue Copying class is this-There are almost 200 total Bargue plates in existence..There are four, 3-hour sessions in this class and typically students start with the eye plate within class under the supervision and complete it at home. The average student learns the basics of how each plate will be done and usually completes about 3 separate plates during the course due to the fact that each plate is designed to be a little harder and more advanced technology than the last one, and as a consequence takes a little more time with each plate to complete than the last. Usually, a student will select the next two plates they wish to complete after the eye plate. We also find that each student is very much an individual and has a different unique skill set and life schedule..because of this it is often difficult to predict the future in terms of whether they may need a little more time to complete a certain plate compared to another student. For this reason, we believe that the quality of what is completed matters more than the quantity completed.
