Discover the Best Cake Making Classes Online

Cake making is the process of baking and decorating cakes. It dates back to ancient Egypt and ancient Greece, where historians have found evidence that people made cakes to celebrate special occasions. Hundreds of years later, people are still making cakes, often for celebrations, but sometimes just because cakes look beautiful and taste good. There are countless different varieties of cakes, ranging from simple sponges to fancy creations like cake pops. There are even more ways to decorate these cakes.

Why You Should Learn Cake Making Online

There are many different reasons to learn cake decorating. Some people learn to make cakes so that they don’t have to buy them. Not only can a homemade cake save you money, but it can be healthier than a store-bought cake because you can control the ingredients that go into it. Cake making can also be a relaxing and creatively fulfilling activity. When you make a cake, you can experiment with different techniques and create a unique cake that reflects your own personal style. Finally, cake making can make financial sense, because you don’t have to spend money on an expensive cake when there is a birthday or other special event; instead, you can just make your own cake.

Virtual Cake Making Classes

In recent years, virtual classes have become a popular way to learn all kinds of different things, and according to global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company, demand for this format continues to grow. It says, “[f]rom doctoral students to lifelong learners, people are increasingly accessing online tools to learn and acquire new skills.” One thing that people love about virtual learning is its flexibility. You can take an online course from any school in the country, from the comfort of your home; all you need is a computer and an internet connection.

However, there are a couple of things to consider if you’re thinking about learning virtually. One is that you might have to deal with technological difficulties on occasion, such as internet or computer issues. Another is that if you learn online, you’ll probably have to supply your own materials, in contrast to an in-person class, where materials are often supplied. When it comes to cake making, this might not be too much of a problem, since, depending on how well-stocked your kitchen is, you may already have many of the things you need.

If you’ve compared your options, and decided that online cake making classes are the way to go, you’ll find a number of different options for cake making and other types of baking and decorating classes.

The Good Food Project is a school run by culinary instructor Chelly Klann, who aims to make cooking fun and accessible for everyone. She offers many different online baking classes. For example, there is a class called French Macaron Step-By-Step Class, where students learn how to make, flavor, pipe, bake, and fill a batch of French macaron cookies. This class is an hour and a half long, and costs $40. Students receive a Zoom link and a supply list after registration.

At New York City-based Food Craft, there is a virtual class called Cookie Decorating. This class is designed to teach students a number of different cookie decorating techniques, including marbling, flooding, and wet-on-wet. Each class has a specific decorating theme, such as Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, or Easter. After enrolling, every student gets a cookie decorating kit that contains vanilla cookies, four different colors of icing, sprinkles, toothpicks, a pair of gloves, and food craft tissue paper. Students need to provide paper towels and a pair of scissors. This class costs $850, and runs for two hours. Gluten-free or vegan cookies are available upon request.

If you’re interested in cake making, you might also enjoy learning how to make pie. Home Cooking New York has a class called Summer Pie Workshop, where students bake a double-crust summer fruit pie with an all-butter crust. This class runs via Zoom, and is an hour and a half long. Tuition is $50. Students can find a list of supplies and ingredients online, or they can simply watch the baking demonstration without actually cooking, if they prefer. They will leave the class with everything they need to know to bake a pie successfully. Home Cooking New York is a Manhattan-based cooking school that opened in 2009

Private Online Group Making Cake Classes

If you’re in charge of booking a group event for a party or work function, CourseHorse has a lot of good options, including private group cake making classes. Cake making is a great way to entertain all different types of people, and you don’t need any previous experience to have fun doing it. If you book through CourseHorse, you’ll find the process quick and easy. There are no booking fees and you don’t have to register. You’ll also get confirmation of your booking within 24 hours. You even have up to 72 hours before the event to add more people to your booking.

You can also find a variety of other baking-related group classes through CourseHorse. The Virtual Apple Crisp Workshop is a popular option, with a professional chef instructor leading participants through each step in the process, including prepping the apple filling, making the streusel topping, baking the apple crisp, and creating apple cider whipped cream to put on top. All nonperishable ingredients are shipped to participants including flour and sugar, plus a gift card to buy the remaining ingredients. Participants should supply a pie plate, knife, cutting board, bowl, saucepan, wooden spoon, and whisk. This class costs $110 per person and can be taken by up to 255 people. It is an hour and a half long.

The Virtual Yeasted Donut Workshop is also popular for groups. Participants make dough by hand, roll it out, cut it, and fry it to make donuts. They also make a chocolate dipping sauce, and a sugar mix to roll the donuts in. Every participant receives a donut kit prior to the event, which includes bread flour, yeast, sugar, cinnamon, chocolate, and a gift card to purchase perishable items. Participants need to have a number of common kitchen tools including a whisk, rolling pin, large pot, and cookie sheet. 250 people can take this class at one time, at a cost of $105 per person. It runs for an hour and thirty minutes.

Most virtual group classes take place through Zoom, but another platform can be used if you prefer. Google Meets, Microsoft Teams, and WebEx are also supported. Contact CourseHorse to learn more about booking a private group cake making class, or to discuss other options.

Online vs. In-Person Cake Making Classes

In-person classes take place in a classroom, with a teacher and other students, while online classes take place virtually, through a computer screen. Each format has its own advantages and disadvantages. The choice of which type of class to take will depend on a number of unique factors such as your personal learning style, your schedule, where you live, and whether you can–or want to–commute to a classroom.

Learning face-to-face, in an in-person format has some benefits. It can be more engaging, students get to interact with other students, and the instructor can have an easier time explaining some things, or seeing when students need additional help. There also tend to be fewer distractions with this format, since students are in an environment specifically designed for learning. However, one downside to in-person learning is that students need to commute to a classroom, which can be both expensive and time-consuming. Some students also find that learning in a large group can be intimidating.

One of the biggest advantages of online learning is that it is more flexible. You don’t have to commute to a classroom, which saves you time and money. Since you attend by logging in online, you can choose from schools all over the country, or even in other countries. However, online learning can come with occasional technological frustrations, such as internet connection issues. Depending on where you learn from, you might also face more distractions.

Can I Learn Cake Making for Free Online?

Baking and decorating a cake can sound like a fairly simple activity, and many people start learning about cake making by following an online recipe, looking at YouTube tutorials, or utilizing other types of free online resources. While free resources can definitely be helpful, many beginning bakers quickly discover that cake making is actually both an art and a science, and they need more help than they initially realized.

As a result, many people decide to take a cake making class. This can be a great way to learn cake making because you’ll get expert instruction from a professional cake maker who can give you tips and tricks, and help you avoid common mistakes and problems. Another reason to take a class is that you can avoid wasting a lot of time sorting through free online resources to find something that is actually useful and credible. Some online resources are outdated or incorrect, while with a class, you’ll know that you’re getting instruction from an expert.
