Washington Photo Safari teaches the techniques of photography by taking visitors and local residents on half-day and full-day photo shoots around key sites of the nation’s capital and other cities, while an accompanying professional photographer offers participants extensive tips in camera use, image composition and design, proper exposure, lighting, and posing “models” for the best effect.
Following our motto "See.Click.Learn.", we show you where the images are in the DC area and how to take them.
Photographers of all skill levels are invited to participate in the Photo Safaris and any camera is acceptable, even smartphone cameras! Principal photography workshops take participants to the major DC sites, including the monuments, memorials, and cathedrals. Beyond these key sites, specialty Safaris are offered on techniques in nature photography, f stops and shutter speeds, indoor/outdoor architectural, food, nighttime photography, pet, macro, abstracts, candid kids, fine arts, proper/creative flash, and indoor and outdoor portraiture. During DC’s beautiful cherry blossom season, photo Safaris are provided at least twice a day around the Tidal Basin.

National Building Museum: An Architectural Photography

My biggest complaint was that the instructor provided incorrect information about tripod use at the Building Museum. Tripods are essential for indoor architecture photography. And it’s ironic that some of the exhibits displayed architecture photography that could only have been taken with tripods, yet the museum won’t allow patrons to use tripods. Had the course listing shared this restriction, I would not have attended the class. This caught several attendees by surprise.
The Instructor was not as knowledgeable as I was expecting. Some of his information was a bit limited compared to readily available online classes — I was expecting him to provide more insights than what I can find on YouTube.

The class was listed as Pacific Time weeks in advance. I was only alerted 4 hours before the class that the time was actually Eastern Time. I did not receive the email until I signed into the class at the original start time, 7pm Pacific Time and no one was there. I sent a message to the instructor who admitted it was strange that he hadn’t received a reply from me to his other email, but I have not been credited with another class yet. Really disappointed as I kept checking to make sure the time on CourseHorse hadn’t changed from PT to another time.
