Reviews for Photography Classes in Washington, D.C.

Photography Classes in Washington, D.C. are rated 4.7 stars based on 26 verified reviews from actual CourseHorse.com purchasers.

  • Great class with lots of one on one instructions. Lots of great suggestions on composition. Fun class.
  • I think everyone that showed to the class can we agree that we loved it. Is such a unique photography class. The instructions were easy to follow. The class was structured as follows: 1.) Instructor had a PowerPoint where you explained the technique, the props that can be used and how to build them. 2.) We took light painting pictures together with her in a big set. 3.) We followed that with pictures in a table top set. 4.) Lastly we were split in groups were we let our imagination run wild.
  • I enjoyed this class a lot. I learned some new techniques and got feedback on my photos. It was also great to practice taking photos with others. I recommend this class
  • My son and I attended this course. The instructor had a good presentation with lots of examples and best of all, he would stop by every single person each time he taught a camera function on technique. So many times if the instructor stays at the front of the classroom, it’s hard to know if you actually understand what’s being taught. Excellent course for beginners.
  • This was a very good intro class. Well explained and easy to understand. We got done about 40 minutes only suggestion I can think of is maybe put us through some more exercises if the class gets done early.
  • Learned so many useful tips for taking better photos. Highly Recommend.
  • I thought the class was wonderful. It was informative, interesting and exactly what I had hoped for. The instructor was great and obviously organized and competent. He used great examples and had a good sense of humor. He took the time to learn and remember names and he kept to a structure and time limits that were impressive. We started and ended on time! I learned so much in a way I understood. It truly was an excellent class. The only thing that I did not like about the class was the student he/you allowed to attend who was an Android user and was new to her phone. She monopolized his time, monopolized the space so it was often hard to take a shot you might want to take, and took time and attention away from the other students. I am curious about why she was allowed to take an I Phone class when she had an Android. I honestly think the instructor should have set some boundaries with her instead of giving her private instruction. This is the only criticism I have and it can be easily addressed by adhering to the class description that this is for IPhone users. Thank you.
  • Michael presented a great class. Lots of information explained fully and with humor. I've already recommended it to friends.
  • Bob was a terrific help giving me a wide-angle look at photography as well as in the weeds helpful hints about the kinds of photos I'll be taking. As a result of this class, I have a renewed confidence in my ability to not just improve my photographs but to keep learning as I go. It was a fun three hours and I'm raring to take improved shots!
  • Excellent instructor and class, I really enjoyed it, learned a lot and plan to check out more classes
  • Outstanding! Exactly what I was looking for. Valuable guidance presented in an effective manner.
  • Thus is an excellent class for beginners and medium experienced photographers. Corey did a very thorough job of explaining settings and what to look for. He moved around to give each person in the class some individual attention. He answered questions and gave suggestions. It was a very positive experience.
  • Great class. Learned a lot. David was a great instructor and a lot of fun.
  • Great beginner class for anyone looking to get into photography. Helps that it is an in-person class where you get to see hands on what each concept means and as a bonus you get to see various types of cameras - if you haven’t yet decided on buying/upgrading to one.
  • David was very knowledgeable, an incredible storyteller, and accommodating to our group.
  • Bob was knowledgeable and fun. He explained concepts very simply. The class was perfect for beginners, I’m looking forward to taking another.

Washington Photo Safari teaches their students photography techniques by taking them around critical sites of the nation’s capital and other cities to shoot while introducing image composition and design, popper exposure, lighting, and posing “models” for the best effect. The DC At Night By Smartphone course is true to the Washington Photo Safari motto. The course is designed for smartphone users to learn how to take great photos after dark while touring famous D.C. monuments. Students must bring their camera (smartphone is fine), extra memory card, and extra battery, and be sure to wear weather-appropriate clothing.

The at-night seminar is set up like a safari taking you on the Metro past the Ulysses Grant Statue to photograph the West Front of the U.S. Capitol building at night. Next, students will travel up Pennsylvania Avenue to appreciate the beautiful architecture on the North Portico of the White House. Some fantastic locations will be visited after finally ending at the Albert Einstein Memorial for a group picture with your fellow students. This course is like a beautiful journey with photographs to document the experience. F-Stops and Shutter Speeds is an excellent course if you want to focus more on learning new skills or techniques. Students will learn how they can control their photos. The instructor will review White Balance and ISO settings and teach how to use the “M” setting. Students will leave this course feeling in control of their camera, helping them decide when to choose “Shutter Priority” or “Aperture Priority.”

Virtual Photography Classes

Virtual photography classes are a great way to learn and offer much flexibility. For example, when taking an online class option, you can log into your course anywhere. This flexibility adds convenience because that also means you have access to more classes. Gone are the days of being limited to only local classes, a short drive away. With access to virtual options, students can pick classes from all over the country and not miss a beat. While convenience is a huge factor in why you should consider an online option, it is important to consider some disadvantages as well. For example, suppose you are a student who needs instant feedback or extra support. In that case, it might be hard to get in an online class due to the limited access to the instructor. Most online classes account for this and include time for instructor feedback, but it could be a bit delayed. Once you have considered if a virtual option is best for you, the next step is finding the best course.

Numerous schools offer online photography classes with many options; it all depends on what you are looking for at the time. For example, are you an iPhone user looking to improve your photo-taking skills or gain more knowledge on the different photo apps offered? iPhone Photography provided through the Chicago Botanic Garden might be what you want in an online class. This course is taught online via Zoom and, with an instructor's support, allows students to explore the better-known apps used for taking nature photos. The instructor will also go over the basics of iPhone photography. Students will then examine the photos taken during class and learn how to enhance, manipulate, or alter them. The course runs over three sessions and costs $124.

If you are a beginner photographer and want to gain knowledge, there is a Virtual Beginner's Photography Class offered through Isla Studio Photography. This is a beginners level course that focuses on using an iPhone or a DSLR camera, but you are not required to have one for class. The seminar is a two-and-a-half-hour crash course on digital photography. Students will learn optimal settings to use in any lighting condition, what kind of camera to buy if they don't already own one, and concepts like exposure aperture and shutter speed. Again, no prior experience is required to attend. Students simply need a desire to learn or improve their photography skills.
