Kelly Kunst

Teaches at Joy of Motion Dance Center

Kelly Kunst grew up studying every style of dance she could find! She focused on ballet, tap, jazz, and modern in an intensive ballet program as well as a competition setting. She spent her summers studying at the prestigious Ballet Regent Institute and American Ballet Theater Summer Intensives. Kunst went on to earn her BPA in Dance Performance from Oklahoma City where she was a magna cum laude graduate after completing extensive coursework in pedagogy, choreography, anatomy, and physiology in addition to ballet, tap, jazz, theater dance, voice, and acting. While at OCU she performed with the American Spirit Dance Company, the Spirit of Grace Liturgical Dance Company, as well as performed and choreographed for the annual choreography showcase. Kunst can be found teaching ballet, tap, jazz, modern, contemporary, and broadway jazz as well as multiple fitness and dancer conditioning classes throughout the DMV. Since moving back to the area in 2003, she has taught at many local studios and schools, choreographed for local musical theater productions, and coached and choreographed for dancers competing in local and national competitions and pageants.

Kelly's focus as an educator is developing the whole dancer, preparing them with life skills in addition to dance skills. A particular love and interest is dance pedagogy from a biomechanics and kinesiological approach. She has developed a dancer conditioning program for students to improve both strength and flexibility in a developmentally safe way. When not dancing, she is also a nationally competitive bodybuilder.
