Philip Hernandez

Teaches at Santa Monica College

Philip Hernandez has trained in Capoeira and Afro-Brazilian percussion for over a decade, beginning his studies with Mestre Marcos Mariano Silva of Capoeira Batuque in Santa Barbara. Philip moved to Brazil in 2006 to continue his studies with renowned capoeira masters focusing on traditional Capoeira Angola movement and history.

While earning his masters in Education at UC, Santa Barbara, Philip was graduated as a Capoeira Professor by the renowned Capoeira teacher, Mestre Amen Santo. In Los Angeles, Philip teaches Capoeira to youth through Alliance Charters Schools in south central Los Angeles and leads the Capoeira Angola class at the Brasil Brasil Cultural Center in Culver city.
