Discover the Best Performing Arts Classes in Los Angeles

The performing arts are a broad spectrum of artistic disciplines characterized by live performances presented to an audience. Performers engage with their spectators, who can be both real-time and asynchronous (as in the case of taped performances). Performing art includes theater, dance, music, opera, comedy, spoken word, and more. Performers strive to communicate ideas, themes, and narratives using their bodies, voices, props, and musical instruments. The performing arts are crucial to the entertainment industry, as well as certain educational institutions.

Why You Should Learn Performing Arts in Los Angeles

Performing arts can give students the ability to express themselves through movement, music, comedy, and more. Through self-expression and artistry, students can explore and understand their innermost thoughts and feelings, as well as connect to a larger audience. Strategically pursued, performing arts can also serve as an additional source of income, whether by acting in a television show or movie, charging a performance fee, or teaching a workshop. While it may be difficult to achieve full financial stability through performing arts alone, it’s certainly possible. And Los Angeles is the ideal city in which to try.

Los Angeles is a great city for anyone looking to master performing arts. The media business, especially film making, employs several hundred thousand people. Hollywood, located in the heart of Los Angeles, is a huge hub for the film industry. In addition to films and television, Los Angeles is also home to many high profile performing art venues, such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall, home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Los Angeles Theatre Center. These venues, among many others, give potential performance artists many places to network, learn, and be inspired.

There are many in-person performing arts classes in Los Angeles for students interested in building and honing their performance skills. McCadden Place Theater is located in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles.

East Los Angeles College offers a class called Group Piano: Level III. In this course, students will learn piano at their own pace. A year of experience (or completion of Group Piano: Level II) must be completed before taking this class. Students will learn as individuals in a group setting. Located in Hermosa Beach, You Can Dance studios offers classes on a “floating floor,” or floor elevated slightly above concrete in order to have more give. One of these classes is Bachata, a course where students learn the ins and outs of the Bachata dance style. In this class, students will learn the fundamentals necessary to go out and dance whenever they wish.

Finally, Mt. San Antonio College offers a class called Introduction to Violin. In a fun and welcoming group setting, participants of all ages have the opportunity to delve into the fundamentals of violin playing and music reading. Students between the ages of 7 and 10 will require a 1/2 size violin, while those aged 11 to 14 will need a 3/4 size, and participants aged 15 and above will benefit from a full-size violin. Renting or purchasing a violin is possible at local music stores. Over the span of six weeks, this course will cover essential aspects such as proper posture, optimal left hand position, correct bow hold, and effective practice techniques. For younger children, parental participation is highly encouraged to enhance the learning experience. Mt. San Antonio College is located in Walnut, California, a suburb of Los Angeles.

Virtual Performing Arts Classes

Virtual performing arts classes offer advantages such as flexibility, convenience, and access to diverse instructors. However, they may lack the energy and personal interaction of traditional classrooms, limit immediate feedback, and be susceptible to technical issues and distractions at home.

There are many virtual performing arts classes available to interested learners. This course is designed for students at any level in their dance performance career, providing an opportunity to hone their relationship with breath, space, and width through dance exercises and routines.

The Singer's Workshop at Los Angeles City College is an engaging course that provides students with the opportunity to perform solo and in groups. Participants can develop their singing skills by practicing vocal techniques, performance skills, breathing, and audience rapport. Topics covered include basic ear training, scales, vowels, and learning simple melodies. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this course is suitable for all levels.
