Best Video Editing Classes & Schools in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is a hub for video production, with some of the most well-known production companies in the world, and students will find a wide range of video editing classes there. Digital Video Editing is a beginner course that consists of seven sessions, and is offered by Los Angeles City College. Students in this class learn how to edit video with Adobe Premiere Pro. Skills include effects, timeline pancaking, tracking audio, color correction, and exporting.This class is a combination of Digital Video Editing with Premiere Pro–Level 1 and Digital Editing with Premiere Pro–Level 2, which can also be taken separately through Los Angeles City College. Tuition is $349.

Another video editing class option for students in Los Angeles is Training Connection. This school is located in the downtown area, and offers a range of different in-person video editing classes. Premiere Pro Bootcamp takes five days to complete, with sessions running from 9 am to 4 pm each day. Students in this class learn both basic and advanced video editing skills, including compositing, rendering, effects, and titles. They also learn to work with Encore, Speedgrade and Prelude. Tuition is $1,845.

A third Los Angeles option is the Moviola Education Center. This school runs a class called Avid Media Composer Fundamentals I, which is $695 and meets twice. In this class, aspiring Editors learn how to use the popular video editing program, Avid Media Composer. Covered skills include creating a project, adding basic effects and transition effects, using automatic color correction, adjusting basic settings, and exporting or uploading to the web. A background in editing, production, or post-production is recommended, but not required.

UCLA Extension offers a program called Specialization: Film Editing that is designed for individuals who want to pursue a career in film editing. Students take a total of three classes, each of which takes about 11 weeks to complete. They learn editing theory, editing skills, and how to apply their knowledge to various types of projects. Tuition for this course is $2,235. Students also need to pay a $50 application fee, plus textbook costs of about $550.
