What you'll learn in this self improvement class:

Mindfulness-Based Eating Awareness Training (MB-EAT), developed by Jean Kristeller and supported by NIH-funded research, addresses mindless eating, stress-related eating, disordered eating patterns, and obesity through the application of mindfulness meditation.

Through mindful eating practices, one learns to pay attention to what the body really needs and why, how to experience the full pleasure and taste of food without overeating, and how to release the guilt and struggle so often associated with eating. The tools of inner and outer wisdom integral to the program help support each person to make informed, balanced, healthy, and sustainable choices over a lifetime, while being truly nourished by food and other aspects of their lives on many levels.

Practices and topics introduced include mindfulness meditation, eating exercises, eating meditations, guided visualizations, lovingkindness and self- compassion practices, exploration of craving and emotional eating, effective behavior change strategies, group facilitation skills, role playing, tools, weekly home practices, and self-reflection to cultivate mindful awareness and a more balanced and positive relationship to eating and weight.

The course consists of ten weekly, 2 1/2 – hour sessions with two monthly follow up classes for 2 hours. Each class offers a lively blend of instruction, group discussion, meditation practice and class exercises – all in a supportive and nourishing environment.

The Mindful Based – Eating Awareness Training program can help you:

  • Eat more mindfully
  • Find more joy and release guilt when eating
  • Free yourself from reactive patterns around food and eating
  • Make healthier choices, unlike dieting, which can lead to feelings of deprivation
  • Trust your body’s inner wisdom and reconnect you with your hunger and satiety cues.
  • Create and maintain healthier habits and mindset around food, what and how you eat.
  • Handle difficult or challenging situations with greater ease

In the MB- EAT program you will:

  • Become aware of the positive and nurturing opportunities that are available through food selection and preparation by respecting your own inner wisdom.
  • Use all your senses in choosing to eat food that is both satisfying to you and nourishing to your body.
  • Acknowledge responses to food (likes, dislikes or neutral) without judgment.
  • Become aware of physical hunger and satiety cues to guide your decisions to begin and end eating.
  • Be empowered and connected to what you need and how to nourish yourself.

The Center for Mindful Living is conveniently located in the heart of West Los Angeles/Brentwood just West of the 405 making it easy to get to from Santa Monica, Palisades, Venice, Culver City, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and the Valley. There are many options for parking. There are metered spaces on Wilshire Blvd. and a few metered spaces on Westgate. There is also free street parking on the rest of Westgate and surrounding side streets. Finally, there is also parking across the street at the Brentwood Place shopping center if you plan to do any shopping during your visit. Please do not park in the lot behind the building – it is for tenants only.
