A Fire and Life Safety (FLS) Director is required in any commercial building requiring Comprehensive Fire Safety and Emergency Action Plan or the buildings previously requiring Fire Safety Directors. In general, any building classified as a high-rise office building, hotel or building that have voluntarily installed fire alarm systems with two-way voice communication systems must have a Fire and Life Safety Director on premises during regular business hours.

The FLSD Graduation Diploma is the first step to achieving an FLS Director Certificate of Fitness, T89 or F89. The diploma is valid for 9 months for the purpose of taking the follow-up FDNY computer-based ‘Fire Component' "On-Site" exam which must be scheduled with the FDNY.
An FLSD Graduation Diploma will be awarded to those who qualify after successfully completing the three lecture components listed above and taking a final examination for each with a passing score of 70% or better.
Some experience in safety and fire prevention, building maintenance, and/or facilities management would be helpful. Questions about your current professional status should be directed to the FDNY.
This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.
