What you'll learn in this tour class:

Today we are joined by local professional step-on guide and former professor of urban studies, Bill “Hoffy” Hoffman. You’ll love Bill’s fun personality and you’ll be impressed with his vast knowledge – he once helped to designate L.A.’s first residential historic district. His passion is showing others the fascinating features of towns and cities that they would otherwise not notice. This tour first takes you on a self-guided tour of BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, a Hindu temple of worship that is a hidden gem tucked away in Chino Hills. Right away you will notice the magnificent architecture and the stunning intricately detailed exterior, handcarved with pinkstone. You won’t see any steel or metal insight as everything from the archways to the pillars, every single piece of the Mandir is hand-carved out of pinkstone and Italian marble. Then we will tour nearby Scripps College – rated the 4th most beautiful campus in the U.S. – to view its gardens and incomparable murals. With our local guide, stroll the Claremont Village – within its 1920s craftsman ambience and tree-lined streets, are over 150 boutiques and restaurants. Here, enjoy lunch on your own. This afternoon we’ll visit the Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Gardens for a self-guided visit. Note: no tank tops, shorts or short skirts. Suggested: walking shoes.
