What you'll learn in this kids writing class:

Writing Skills Development For High School Composition (Grades 9-12)

Writing arguments in an analysis of substantive topics or texts is a skill needed for high school writing success.  Students will learn specific tools to:

  • Introduce a precise claim, establish the significance of the claim, and distinguish it from alternate or opposing claims.
  • Supply evidence for both, pointing out the strength and weaknesses of each for the reader.
  • Use transitions and transitional phrases to link the sections of text to create a cohesive argument.


Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.

Cancellation Policy

Please choose your classes carefully. No refunds issued unless a class is cancelled by El Camino College. Electronic credit vouchers in the amount of the class registration fee less a $15 service fee per class will be issued upon requests received no later than 3 full business days before the first class meeting. Electronic credit vouchers are applicable toward a future Community Education class and are valid for 3 years. Special policy for excursions and special events: Refund requests for excursions and special events must be received no later than 2 weeks (10 full business days) before the scheduled excursion or event.

Requesting a transfer

To transfer to a different class date or course, requests must be received at least three full business days before the first class meeting. A $10 service fee per class will apply. Please call CourseHorse at 212.729.4088.
