Photographing Trees
Different types of trees require different photographic techniques to represent their beauty. For evergreens, the emphasis is on texture and pattern; for deciduous trees, capturing branches and the changing color of leaves as individual subjects in close-ups is the focus. Digital SLR cameras with a medium to wide-angle lens and macro or close-focusing lens are required.
Into the Woods
In this class, students will learn how to find and photograph various parts of McDonald Woods. Subjects will include dealing with differences of scale, changing light levels, and using different perspectives to photograph paths as lead-lines. The School's CEUs=1.2
Botanical Drawing 3
We will explore different approaches to capture beautiful and accurate botanical detail, frequently using the microscope. We will work primarily in pencil and will experiment with different tools to achieve particular textures and effects. Prerequisite: Botanical Drawing 1 and 2 or equivalent. Abstracts in Nature - Winter

In this advanced class, students will focus on winter abstracts—including water changes—to create fine art photographs. We will capture the Garden as the freeze of winter encroaches on the landscape. Students will learn the program Blurb to design a photography book for presentation of their winter portfolio. Expressive Watercolor: Open Studio

Georgia O’Keeffe Sunflowers in Mosaic

Using the beautiful Georgia O’Keeffe flower paintings as a template, broken and cut art glass will be glued to an acrylic panel to form a realistic or abstract version of an O’Keeffe flower. This process takes into consideration color, shape, and shading using gorgeous transparent glass as the medium. All supplies are included.
Indigo Workshop
Explore indigo, the enigmatic dye often shrouded with ritual and mystery, in this hands-on workshop. Learn the history of indigo and the basics of creating and maintaining an indigo vat. You will find out about a variety of dye techniques, try them out on different samples of yarn and fabric, and make a scarf to take home. Wear clothes that can get messy.
