In-Person Weaving Classes & Schools in Chicago

For individuals who enjoy training in a classroom setting, in-person classes and schools are available in Chicago. Although there aren’t any courses specifically related to weaving, other courses are available. 

Sewing 101 Basics is offered by Sew Anastasia in West Town. The course is located at 2014 W Carroll Ave between Damen & N Hoyne Avenues. It is beginner-level for individuals ages ten and older. Individuals learn how to use a sewing machine, do basic stitches, and do other fundamental sewing techniques. Other essential skills that are covered include how to sew fasteners, the basics of serging, and reading and using a sewing pattern. 

Those looking to learn how to make comfortable pieces like jeans, t-shirts, and hoodies, can enroll in Streetwear Sewing, also offered by Sew Anastasia. Individuals work on a new piece each week, and all supplies are included.

Another available course from Sew Anastasia is Dress Making 101. The course is beginner-level for individuals ages a18 and older and covers how to design a dress, create a sample, and sew it. Individuals interested in this course should have already taken Sewing 101 or an equivalent course. 

Intro to Knitting is offered by Discovery Center at Irving Park. The course is located at 4318 N Elston Ave on the second floor between Pulski Road and North Harding Ave. It is meant for beginners with no prior knowledge of knitting. It includes proper terminology, hands-on activities, visual aids, and 1-on-1 assistance. 

Virtual Weaving Classes & Schools

There are many benefits to enrolling in virtual weaving classes. They are easily accessible. Individuals can participate from anywhere worldwide as long as they have a reliable internet connection. Virtual classes allow for flexibility when it comes to scheduling. They can attend from their homes and eliminate the need for travel or a lengthy commute. Individuals generally have to supply their materials for virtual weaving classes, but instructors provide the necessary list so that there is plenty of time to prepare. 

Although CourseHorse doesn’t currently have any virtual weaving classes available on its site, other related courses are available. Home Sewing Bootcamp, offered by Santa Monica College, introduces or re-acquaints individuals with their home sewing machines. They go through step-by-step exercises and learn about winding the bobbin, threading, changing the needle, balancing tension, and stitching. At the end of the course, they apply their skills to construct a tote bag and a pair of drawstring shorts. 

Those interested in learning to work with leather can look into Make a Leather Koozie by Coastal Design Workshops LLC. Skills taught include stenciling, cutting, punching, and stitching genuine leather with special leather working tools. A DIY craft kit is delivered to course participants and includes everything needed to create the koozie except for scissors. 

92nd Street Y offers Crochet for Beginners. Individuals learn to crochet different fabrics with assorted patterns and textures. The course provides individuals with the skills needed to make scarves, hats, and blankets. Culminating projects include a cell phone pouch and a stitch sampler scarf. Supplies must be purchased ahead of time. 

Private Group Weaving Classes in Chicago

Do you want an exciting team-building event with personalized instruction for your event or business? CourseHorse has live online group weaving classes that they can deliver to you.
