Exceptional class, Jyl is a masterclass teacher! -
Adult WaterColors
Really enjoyed the class. First time with watercolors. I’m hooked! -
Demonstration Baking: Challah Making and Shaping
Excellent class from a knowledgeable baker. Exceeded my expectation as I'm hard of hearing and she wore a device so I was able to hear the demonstration. Pick up some good information for different challah shapes. -
Painting I: Acrylics & Oils
I learned a lot. Thanks B! -
Hands-On Knife Skills
The class was great! Learned a lot of skills that I’m looking forward to trying at home. -
How to Bake Bread
Excellent space. Great instruction by Chef David and his outstanding assistant Alexi. They were very accommodating and helpful to make sure I was successful due to my hearing issues. Exceeded my expectations. -
Hands-On Knife Skills
I really appreciate the quality and detailed knowledge. Hands-on is always better, and that is what I received. Watching videos online is fine, but it is nothing like an instructor correcting your form and technique in person. If you want to make sure you have your technique done correctly, then I recommend this class. The chefs were very helpful. You can take your chopped veggies home, and they offer student discounts if you want to purchase kitchen items. A bench scraper is a lifesaver while working in your kitchen, too. -
Vegan Chinese Takeout Favorites
Chef Andy was friendly, approachable, interactive in her teaching style, very knowledgeable and eager to share her cooking experience and knowledge with us. She was non-judgmental about the skills and knowledge and questions asked by us. The food was delicious. The only suggestion would be to provide the recipes at the beginning so we could follow along and take notes as we went. Overall a fabulous experience and I would definitely take another class from Chef Andy! -
Drawing I
I’ve really enjoyed this class! B is an excellent teacher and as someone who is new to drawing, I learned a lot of fundamental techniques that will be essential as I progress. -
Sushi Rolling for Beginners
This course is run by Chef Franco of Franco Sushi. He is an excellent teacher, and he is very prompt with communication before and after the class. This would be an ideal class for a date night as well, since he can run it as a private class for 2 people. -
Hand-Made Lipstick Division Studio (One Tube)
Nice and easy class and the lipstick was awesome. -
Valentine’s Handmade Pasta for 2 Guests (BYOB)
It was very fun -
Stone Carving Sculptures Workshop
I gifted this sculpture workshop to my fiancé for his birthday. This helped beat the winter blues and a perfect date-style activity. The studio is gorgeous, the teacher made everything feel accessible, and we left with finished pieces we’re actually proud of. Bonus points for being active and getting the blood flowing. Would absolutely recommend. -
Intro to Crochet
Samaya was fabulous! She was so patient and sweet. Her instructions were perfectly simple and straightforward, yet never condescending. A true professional, I would refer anyone to her and hope to take more courses from her. I learned so much in such a short period. -

Stone Carving Sculptures Workshop
An awesome opportunity to do a start-to-finish project in a single day, as a total beginner. Jyl was very generous in helping to learn tools and techniques, and also in sharing information and stories about her work and her involvement in the art scene. -
Stone Carving Sculptures Workshop
Very fun and educational workshop! Jyl did a great job of providing technical direction while allowing us to explore our creativity. It was really cool that we were able to finish a sculpture and take it home in one day! -
Stone Carving Sculptures Workshop
The pacing of the class was easy to follow. Jyl was kind and knowledgeable. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or to hit the alabaster a bit harder. -
Stone Carving Sculptures Workshop
My dream is to be a stone sculptor. This course make my dream real! I need to practice more but Jyl is the best teacher mentor you can find! She is a specialist in marble sculpture using the same techniques used by the greatest sculptors in history. Yes, with the same technique that Michelangelo used. I am very grateful to Jyl and I recommend with all certainty to anyone who finds something beautiful in marble sculptures and wants to try or anyone who loves art and wants to try a new art, this is for you! -
A Taste of Italy for 2 Guests (BYOB)
I had an amazing time at A Taste of Italy (BYOB)! The staff was warm, welcoming, and made the whole experience so much fun. The class itself was really well run, and I’d definitely recommend it for a night out with friends or a date. In terms of the food, it leaned more toward Americanized Italian cooking than traditional Italian, so if you’re looking for truly authentic regional dishes, just set your expectations accordingly. That said, everything we made was delicious, approachable, and easy to replicate at home. Overall, a great experience — fun, interactive, and the team behind it really made it special. -
Stone Carving Sculptures Workshop
My second time taking this class. Its a unique and fun experience that you don't find a chance to do often. Especially when being able to work closely with the instructor. -
Stone Carving Sculptures Workshop
This course was absolutely phenomenal! The instructor and course are accessible and welcoming to students at all skill levels, from someone with absolutely zero experience in any arts (like myself) to some of my classmates who were talented illustrators and promising beginner/intermediate stone carvers. Jyl is very friendly and knowledgeable and eager to introduce pupils to stone carving. I loved working in her studio and seeing all the wonders she's made and previewing her works that are in-progress. After 6.5 hours, our class had taken rough blocks of stone and turned them into our visions; some complex and some very simple (like mine). But they were ours. I highly recommend this class to everyone! -
Hands-On Pasta and Gnocchi Workshop
I went to the pasta-making class at The Chopping Block in Lincoln Square on Tuesday, September 2nd, and it was honestly one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. This class was a birthday gift for me (probably the best gift I’ve ever gotten), and it made for not only a super fun birthday outing but also a great date night with my partner. This was my first cooking class ever, and as someone who already loves cooking at home, I was blown away by how fun and hands-on it was. Chef Alexi was fantastic—she explained everything clearly, from rolling and cutting fettuccine to filling ravioli, and even the details of cooking the pasta just right. She was patient, thorough, and always ready to answer questions. Plus, there were other chefs walking around to offer help whenever anyone needed it, which made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. We cooked a lot of food—and even had enough to take home afterward, which was such a treat. Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend my birthday. I left with full hands (and a full stomach), new cooking skills, and some really great memories. If you’re looking for something fun, interactive, and delicious, I can’t recommend The Chopping Block enough. -

Stone Carving Sculptures Workshop
I recommend this class at every level. The artist-teacher is excellent at managing students of different skills and making sure we're all safe and having fun. She is a brilliant thinker (who will explain how stonecarving is a uniquely reductive art, where you take something away instead of adding to), but is also so chill and welcoming to all kinds of students from all kinds of backgrounds. The stonecarving craft itself is a meditative experience, especially once you can wrap your mind around the fact that you're creating something new out of a natural material which is thousands of years old. But it's always creative, always active, always fun. The teacher's knowledge and artistry is everywhere, and the more you absorb the more you'll love the craft and the class. Look on the walls and floor and tables of her studio, ask her questions, and most of all, Listen to her stories. There is so much information, integrated in her life's work! In that one day I felt like I walked away with a month of stonecarving education. This is also the kind of class which will give more everytime you take it. I fully intend to take it again when I have the funds, and if I am ever wealthy somehow, I will go broke hiring Jyl to make beautiful things in marble. -
An Introduction to Kink 101: Bondage and Domination, S&M
The instructor was very knowledgeable and took their time explaining every aspect of the course. They definitely made you out feel comfortable. I look forward to future classes.
