Let’s Carve Stone – Design, carve, and polish your own sculpture in alabaster during this 1-day workshop class under the tutelage of professional stone sculptor, Jyl Bonaguro.
Using traditional manual tools like a hammer, point, flat and tooth chisels along with rasps you will learn:
Details: Adults Only. No previous experience is required to participate. Tools for sculpture students are provided through the generosity of the Awesome Foundation. Workshop fee includes one small block of alabaster, tools for carving, safety glasses, gloves and dust masks. If you are sensitive to noise, then you are encouraged to bring your own earplugs. Lunch is not included – BYOL

About Alabaster: Instead of harder stone grades like marble or limestone, students will carve Alabaster. Alabaster is a lightly colored, translucent, soft stone that has been used throughout the world for stone objects. Since ancient times, it has been used to create small items like perfume bottles to life size statues. Its softness makes it a perfect beginner carving stone, while the translucency makes it quite beautiful as a piece of art.
About Workshop 4200: Since 2015, Workshop 4200 has provided a much needed home for all kinds of creators: makers, builders, artists, teachers, performers, designers, engineers, and innovators. Jyl Bonaguro has had her professional sculpture studio here since 2016.
Refund requests must be submitted to [email protected] 3 business days prior to the program’s start date and time. The registration fee will be refunded less a 10 percent processing charge. A refund is issued in the form of a credit on file (to be used for future programs).
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
The Stone Carving Workshop offers an engaging and challenging learning experience that students find hugely satisfying. Guided by a talented artist and excellent instructor named Jyl, students received personalized attention to gain a solid understanding of the tools and procedures of stone carving. Despite being a beginners' class, the progression the students witnessed from start to finish was quite astounding. Through the course, students developed a deeper appreciation for the skills and dedication required in stone carving. It was an intensive learning experience that demanded physical effort which, for many, resulted its own rewards. By the end of the class, all the students were able to successfully complete and take home their individual stone carved pieces. Quotes: 1.
