Amanda Martinez is a New York City native who studied voice at the “Fame” School (LaGuardia Arts High School) along with theatre and voice at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. She started doing yoga over eight years ago to better serve her career in performance. What started as a way to help with general flexibility issues became a transformative journey that brought a new found passion and inner peace.This invigorated her mission to bring the light and love of yoga to others. She got her RYT-200 hour certification at Yoga Loft in Chicago where she studied with Jill Jerome and Liza McCormick as her primary instructors. She’s had the pleasure of participating in workshops with: Dharma Mittra, Tim Feldmann, Angie Starz, Cassi Stuckman, Sarah Elizabeth Helt and others. Amanda believes it is essential for all people to have a safe space where they can get on their mats and quiet the mind. Akin to the Meisner Technique, yoga is meant to be a process that requires the practitioner to be present in every singular moment. This includes creating a sense of awareness in the asanas (or poses) and demands austerity throughout the transitions from posture to posture. Through this, students can clear the “mind stuff”, which is the constant chatter that may occur in the brain, and put the focus on the body, thus allowing practitioners to feel aligned, calm, and open. With a little breathing, a little moving, and a little self love, anything is possible!
