Evanston Art Center is a non-profit (501(c)3) visual arts organization in Evanston, IL. The Evanston Art Center specializes in art education, scholarship programs, community events, public programs, outreach and exhibitions. All exhibitions are free and open to the public.
For more than eighty years the Evanston Art Center has been a major force in bringing together people, art and ideas. One of the oldest and largest visual art centers in Illinois, the Evanston Art Center's mission is to make the visual arts an integral and accessible part of the lives of the diverse audiences in the surrounding communities.
The Art Center fulfills this mission through an extensive offering of visual arts classes, public lectures, changing exhibitions, youth outreach activities, and publications, all of which are designed to engage and enrich the individual and the community.
The Art Center was established in 1929 by a group of civic and cultural leaders from the Evanston community. Alice C. Riley was the guiding light of this group of culturally minded citizens. Under her guidance, the Art Center was established and it thrived. Ms. Riley felt the true worth of a community could not be measured by economic success alone, but also had to take into consideration a rich cultural life.
EAC specializes in education, exhibitions, events, public programs, and community partnerships that involve youth, teens, and adults.

The teacher was well organized and a good communicator—and the syllabus was just right for an introductory course. There wasn’t enough time to go into depth on any particular subject—but the course was a nice survey on a variety of subjects, including lighting, upholstery, floor plans, color, different styles, and resources. The teacher was flexible, engaging, and responsive to our questions and feedback—and she helped us apply the curriculum to our own homes. Nice mix of hand-outs and hands-on activities. Would recommend.

Enjoyed the class..and class size, 4 students. Teacher was patient and attentive, helping and checking progress often. Only complaint is the picture in the class description looks like we would be making a larger bowl. I would recommend this class.

My sister and I definitely enjoyed the class. Our instructor Geof was very knowledgeable and helpful. I will likely sign up for other classes including the 12 week beginning lathe class. I do have one issue. The photo on the class description for this class is very deceiving and kind of false advertising. Not knowing how long the process actually takes to make a bowl, I thought we would be making a large “salad” bowl because that is the photo that was on the sign up and description page. No where did it say the finished size bowl we would be creating for 140.00. It would be nice if the photo was of a bowl that is made during the class. I have taken a photo of my sisters’ and my bowl if you need an actual photo. Please let me know if you would like to use this photo on your sign up sheet. I will try to email it to the above email.

The class was great. I definitely walked away feeling confident in my ability to apply what I learned in class. It’s for sure worth the money.

Excellent class with a lot of hands on work to complete the project. Jeff was a great instructor, explaining how to use the lathe and tools and the techniques that were needed to form the bowl. He offered as much assistance as was needed, but allowed everyone to learn by actually doing the work. Would look forward to taking a next level class to work on something a bit more difficult.

It was a fun class. The teacher is very approachable. She explained things well and was open to answering any questions. I look forward to making more rings with some of my foreign currency I have saved from traveling.
