Whether you know us as "extension," "continuing education," "community education," or "lifelong learning," we represent a 3rd type of educational offerings community colleges in California can do besides classes "for-credit" (for degrees and certificates and with financial aid possible), or free, "noncredit" courses for basic skills development and career training.
In a nutshell, Community Services offers classes, events and other offerings for just about anyone in the community - old or young, resident or not, training for a career or just looking to have a good time. Our offerings are not-for-credit (no transcripts, degrees or CA Community College Certificate programs), and are 100% supported by fees or donations/contributions. We're kind of like public TV or radio, but the education version!
We help folks learn a skill, try out new things and connect with LACC and our neighbors in an educational setting.
Community Services Mission
To provide a wide array of student and community-supported classes, workshops, seminars, excursions, recreational and other offerings to all members of the community. We aim to contribute to the physical, mental, moral, economic and civic development of our surrounding community and in doing so, foster a sense of community and neighborhood.
Community Services strives to achieve the following program outcomes:
I really loved this class. Waldy was amazing and patient. I met some great people who love tennis as much as I do and now we’ve started our own Meetup to keep the tennis party going!
Very informative class. The instructor (Ronald Amie) was very knowledgeable.
The class is simply doing an exercise from the Illustrator book by Adobe, complete with the files from the in-book disc. I was hoping for more understanding of how and why the program works, not just doing a book exercise together as a group. The pace was also quite slow, if you’re familiar with adobe programs at all.
Class was solid. A little rush but understandable. Maybe split this class into 2 classes. It would also be helpful if the course detailed the parking options. We had no idea where to park.
Class moved too slow, even for a fundamentals class. Felt like we covered 1.5 hours of actual concepts in a 7 hour day.
The instructor was wonderful!!! Thank you again!! He's a real gem!
Class was good, learned how operate equipment, clean, make diff. Drinks do designs in drinks and learned more about coffee.
Very little and low grade level of information. Below the average standard.
When I asked the teacher to turn the audio down from the Galaxy Movie trailer, he made sure he had my eye contact and said 'yeah it sounds like they are having sex, doesn't it'. They were not having sex, nor did it sound like it and there was no reason for him to say this. I feel like he was trying to gauge my reaction to sexual comments, which is not only inappropriate but it is sexual harassment. I complained to Coursehorse...and their pathetic response was for me to leave a review.
I was very disappointed with this class, first day it was very rushed and when students had questions the professor just rushed to the next task. Second day he was a no show. I live in Torrance and driving at that hour in LA traffic is not a short drive. It took me an hour and a half to arrive and to be told the teacher was a no show was very unprofessional. I would like some kind of refund for this inconvenience.
