RV125 is the “plug-it-in and light-it-up” primer for Ross XPression. It focuses on hardware, software installation, and baseline project prep needed before template artistry or MOS automation begins. Students rack an XPression Studio or BlueBox chassis, verify video-I/O timing, license Designer seats, and build a first “hello-lower-third” scene – establishing a rock-solid platform for the advanced class.
Objectives:
- Understand the XPression interface, components, and rendering engine (such as: Studio, BlueBox, Tessera nodes)
- Install XPression software, apply dongle / soft licenses, and verify GPU & driver compatibility
- Cable SDI/IP video I/O, genlock / reference, and AES/embedded audio routes
- Create and organize projects: database structure, publish paths, font & material management
- Build simple 2D/3D scenes and lower-thirds in XPression Designer; save as project templates
- Configure on-air channels, frame-sync settings, and video-server GPIO/UDP tallies
- Manage user profiles, permissions, and network shares for shared graphics libraries
- Perform software/firmware updates, generate diagnostic logs, and back up projects & templates
- Troubleshoot core hardware issues: black outputs, GPU overload, dropped frames, reference errors
Audience:
- Broadcast and Sports Graphics Operators
- Motion Graphic Designers
- Technical Directors
- Engineers and IT Staff supporting graphics systems
- Live Event and In-Venue Production Teams
