RV120 is a primer for Carbonite Switchers. This base class focuses on hardware architecture, panel layouts, signal flow, and core setup tasks – everything an engineer or new TD must conquer before automation, custom controls, or advanced layering come into play. Tailored for both technical operators and engineers, this course balances core switcher operation with real-world use cases in broadcast, live event, and government production environments.
Objectives:
- Understand Carbonite switcher architecture and panel layouts – main frame, I/O cards, Multi-Definition Processing, and control surfaces
- Cable SDI/HDMI/IP sources, reference & genlock; validate timing with DashBoard timing tools
- Configure routing, source patching, and basic M/E / keyer assignments
- Build user profiles, device memories, and startup snapshots for rapid show recall
- Deploy and test dual multiviewers: layout selection, tally, UMD, alarm overlays
- Perform firmware & software updates, create restore USBs, and document version pinning
- Monitor system health (temperatures, fan speeds, PSU status) and expert diagnostic logs
- Troubleshoot fundamental signal issues: black inputs, mismatched frame rates, key-fill level errors
- Apply Ross best practices for grounding, UPS integration, and redundant power sequencing
