Class Description

Description

Comedy writing is not an innate gift reserved for the naturally humorous. Rather, it is a learnable skill that can be systematically studied, practiced, refined, and perfected through dedicated effort. This hands-on workshop welcomes participants of all experience levels and combines instructional lectures with practical in-class writing exercises. You will analyze humorous prose, revise and improve sitcom scripts, study movie comedies while analyzing their structural techniques, and discover how comedy works across different formats and media.

Most importantly, this class reveals an exciting truth: whether your humor is whimsical or heartfelt, silly or profound, you can apply comedy writing techniques to any medium, including memoirs, spoken word performances, sitcoms, romantic comedies, blogs, social media, and professional presentations. Everything on your mind and in your heart deserves to be expressed with humor and authenticity.

  • How to Write the Funny

I had different expectations so that is why the low rating. I anticipated to write jokes, but instead it was to write a funny essay.

  • How to Write the Funny

It was a good class. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun doing so. The instructor really broke down the patterns in how funny material is made. He also created an environment that made it easy to participate.
