Our hands serve as powerful receptors through which we experience and understand the world around us. The sensory information gathered through touch communicates with our minds and hearts, guiding how we interact with our environment. By developing awareness of our tactile sensations, we unlock one of our most valuable sources of insight and connection.
This introductory workshop focuses on deepening the relationship between your hands, heart, mind, and clay. Through mindful practice, you will strengthen your ability to listen and feel through the material itself. Rather than imposing predetermined expectations onto clay, you will learn to respond to what the material is telling you and allow it to guide your creative direction.
Participants will master fundamental handbuilding techniques, including pinch pots, coiling, slab construction, surface decoration, and glazing processes. These techniques provide the foundation to create anything you envision, whether functional vessels, abstract forms, or works that blend both approaches. Throughout the workshop, you are encouraged to complete as many pieces as you wish, and you will receive clay to take home for continued practice and skill development outside the studio.
All finished pieces will be fired to cone 5 and will be ready for pickup within three weeks of the workshop's start date. All glazed pieces are both microwave and dishwasher-safe, making them fully functional for everyday use. Participants of all experience levels are welcome to join.
