What you'll learn in this photography class:

Move over AUTO setting, it’s time to take control of your camera! You’ll master the basics of digital photography in this 5-day classroom and 1-day field session course.

Learn how to get accurate focus, set white balance, control sharpness, adjust exposure, choose ISO, and use your camera to make more creative photographs of your favorite subjects, scenes, and moments. You'll also learn about megapixels, jpeg and raw files, and memory cards. Your questions will be answered!

Bring to class a digital camera (with adjustments for shutter and aperture) along with the owner's manual. During the fourth week of class, you’ll go on a Saturday field session. On your last day of class, you’ll have the opportunity to review your field session photos!

Cancellation Policy

Requests for withdrawal from a class must be received at least three full business days before the first class meeting. Upon request you will receive a credit voucher in the amount of the class, less a $10 service fee per class. The credit voucher is applicable toward a future class and is valid for three years. Full refunds will be granted if a class is cancelled by El Camino College. Please allow four to six weeks for processing.

Requesting a transfer

Would this class be good for a nice camera built into a smartphone? e.g. Samsung Galaxy 9+

Hi there, digital cameras have more features and controls than smartphone cameras. Perhaps 50% of class material may not apply directly to the Samsung smartphone camera, but the other 50% should be helpful. Hope this helps.

Where can non college students park at El Camino College?

Hi Melissa! All students and visitors are required to have and display a valid El Camino College Parking permit to park a motor vehicle in the student/general parking lots. One day parking permits are available from the parking permit machines located in the parking lots.
