We are a retail bead shop in Oak Park, Illinois, just outside of Chicago with an extraordinary selection of beads and beading supplies. We specialize in helping you find just the right color, size or shape bead (or other material) for your project.
Doris Weinbaum opened Bead in Hand in 1993 at its current location before there was an Oak Park Arts District. Over the years, many restaurants and arts related businesses have opened and the area has become a popular destination. In January, 2008, Doris moved to California with her husband, Mike, overseeing the business and communicating regularly with staff by phone and email.
Kim Humphrey became the new owner of Bead In Hand in March, 2012. Kim had been a regular customer since 1996, became a part-time employee in 2005 and store manager in June, 2010. Long time customers may notice furniture being rearranged, but the basics that make the shop so special will not change: the friendly and helpful staff, the amazing variety of beads and supplies, classes and parties for adults and children, and participation in the Kids’ Art Camps with other galleries and businesses in the Arts District.
The teacher was very good at making sure everyone understood the process.
The instructor was very good and made sure everyone was working on the project correctly and was extremely friendly.
Kate was a great teacher. She was very patient, helped each person individually when we encountered any issue, and I cannot stress enough how patient she was. She showed us numerous examples and sent us home with explicit written instructions for future projects. I would definitely go back for future classes.
The class was fun, our Instructor was knowledgeable, personable and very helpful. I attended the class with my granddaughter and we are now bead enthusiast.
The class was so informative, fun. I learned so much in a short time such. Our instructor was patient well prepared and the ease she taught helped so much. Looking forward to more jewelry making classes.
I’m so glad I made the trek. The store is wonderfully arranged with what seems to be an endless array of beads, etc. The atmosphere was cozy. Our instructor Kim was awesome! She was thorough, patient and kind. I actually learned two bead weaving techniques. I would wholeheartedly recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn peyote stitch.
The class was a great experience. I learned so much and can not wait for the next class. The instructor, in my opinion, was clear, well prepared and helpful to all. As a former educator, I was impressed with her ability to adeptly handle all the students regardless of their experience level and needs. The beautiful wire wrapped pendants each of us was able to make (with guidance and help) is a testimony to the success of the class and instructor.
It was awesome, Fun and the technique was easier than I thought. The teacher was very patient and helped all levels of learning. I love my piece! Thank you!
Kate is very patient and we had a very good time in class.
This class was wonderful! Laurel was patient and clear in explaining the process, and my daughter and I both left with beautiful bracelets. I highly recommend this class!
