This one-day instructor-led class provides an overview of Google Cloud Platform products and services. Through a combination of presentations, demos, and hands-on labs, participants learn the value of Google Cloud Platform and how to incorporate cloud-based solutions into business strategies.
Who should attend
This class is intended for the following:
- Individuals planning to deploy applications and create application environments on Google Cloud Platform.
- Developers, systems operations professionals, and solution architects getting started with Google Cloud Platform.
- Executives and business decision makers evaluating the potential of Google Cloud Platform to address their business needs.
Prerequisites
- Familiarity with the Linux command line, web servers, and text editors.
This course teaches participants the following skills:
- Identify the purpose and value of Google Cloud Platform products and services
- Interact with Google Cloud Platform services
- Describe ways in which customers have used Google Cloud Platform
- Choose among and use application deployment environments on Google Cloud Platform: Google App Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine, and Google Compute Engine
- Choose among and use Google Cloud Platform storage options: Google Cloud Storage, Google Cloud SQL, Google Cloud Bigtable, and Google Cloud Datastore
- Make basic use of BigQuery, Google’s managed data warehouse for analytics

Module 1: Introducing Google Cloud Platform
- Explain the advantages of Google Cloud Platform.
- Define the components of Google's network infrastructure, including: Points of presence, data centers, regions, and zones.
- Understand the difference between Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS).
Module 2: Getting Started with Google Cloud Platform
- Identify the purpose of projects on Google Cloud Platform.
- Understand the purpose of and use cases for Identity and Access Management.
- List the methods of interacting with Google Cloud Platform.
- Lab: Getting Started with Google Cloud Platform.
Module 3: Virtual Machines and Networks in the Cloud
- Identify the purpose of and use cases for Google Compute Engine.
- Understand the various Google Cloud Platform networking and operational tools and services.

Module 4: Storage in the Cloud
- Understand the purpose of and use cases for: Google Cloud Storage, Google Cloud SQL, Google Cloud Bigtable, and Google Cloud Datastore.

Module 5: Containers in the Cloud
- Define the concept of a container and identify uses for containers.

- Understand the purpose of and use cases for Google App Engine.
- Contrast the App Engine Standard environment with the App Engine Flexible environment.

Module 7: Developing, Deploying, and Monitoring in the Cloud
- Understand options for software developers to host their source code.
- Understand the purpose of template-based creation and management of resources.
- Understand the purpose of integrated monitoring, alerting, and debugging.

Module 8: Big Data and Machine Learning in the Cloud
- Understand the purpose of and use cases for the products and services in the Google Cloud big data and machine learning platforms.

Remote Learning
This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.
Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.
Refund Policy
Cancellation Policy:
Public Classes
All requests to cancel a registration must be in writing via e-mail to [email protected]
- You may cancel 11 or more business days from the start of the class for a refund less 5% cancellation fee.
- If you cancel less than 11 business days from the start of the class, you are responsible for 100% of the course fee.
Cisco Data Center or Cisco Cloud Courses
All requests to cancel a Cisco Data Center or Cisco Cloud class reservation must be made via e-mail.
- You may cancel or reschedule more than 19 business days from the start of the class for a refund less 5% cancellation fee.
- If a Learner chooses to reschedule, the payment already received will be applied to the new class.
- If a cancellation request is made within 19 business days of the class start date, no refund will be provided, regardless of payment method.
Partner-Delivered Classes
For Partner-delivered courses, if a reservation is canceled or rescheduled fewer than 16 business days before the class start date, the entire original course fee will be forfeited. An additional course fee will be required for the new reservation.
*The school, or one of its Partners, reserves the right to cancel a course for any reason and without penalty more than ten (10) business days before the start of the class.
Rescheduling:
All requests to reschedule a registration must be in writing via e-mail to [email protected]
Public Classes
- Students may reschedule a registration up to 11 business days before the scheduled start date without penalty.
- Rescheduling will be defined as transferring the registration to the same course on a different date or transferring to another course of equal or lesser value up to 6 months from the original course start date.
Partner Delivered Classes
- For Partner delivered courses, if a student reschedules less than 16 business days before the class, the entire original course fee may be forfeited. An additional course fee may be required for the new registration.
* You are allowed two (2) reschedules. After a second reschedule, the entire original course fee will be forfeited, and an additional course fee will be required for a new registration.
No Shows:
Failure to attend without prior written notice to the start date of the course will be considered a "no show" and will result in forfeiture of the full course price including NetApp courses paid for with NetApp Training Units. Under these conditions, the school, at its own discretion may allow you to re-sit another session of the same or lower priced course.
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
