This comprehensive course breaks down the essential duties and technical competencies required of Assistant Editors working in both scripted and unscripted television and media productions. The curriculum combines lectures, software demonstrations, and hands-on practical exercises in Adobe Premiere Pro to develop professional-level editing capabilities. Students will learn critical technical considerations, including codec selection for importing and linking media, project organization methodologies, grouping techniques, string-out creation, multicam editing, production workflows, text-based editing approaches, and numerous additional professional practices. The course also covers career development for Assistant Editors, including strategies for succeeding and advancing within the editing industry.
Upon completing this course, students will be able to:
- Create and properly format new projects for offline editing workflows
- Identify and understand external project structures and various format options
- Customize keyboard mappings and establish personalized workspaces
- Manage media files using Media Browser tools
- Ingest, link, and transcode media content efficiently
- Create proxy media and implement proxy workflows for editing optimization

Required Prerequisites:
