This TV writing program, taught by Jacob Krueger, the studio's founder, guides participants through the development of compelling pilots, series engines, and comprehensive series bibles. Whether crafting a dramatic series, comedic program, dramedy, miniseries, or web series, students will discover the essential components and structural principles that define successful television programming.
Fundamentals of Television Development
Participants will learn how to transform a promising concept into a framework capable of sustaining multiple seasons of compelling storytelling. The course examines the architectural blueprint and generative engine that powers acclaimed shows, including Arrested Development, Breaking Bad, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Bojack Horseman, Modern Family, The Wire, and Succession, among many others. Students will uncover the methodology for crafting nuanced, layered characters that audiences find irresistible and want to follow episode after episode.
Connecting Character, Structure, and Series Engine
Constructing the framework of a successful television pilot extends beyond narrative excellence. The real work involves establishing a repeatable blueprint that can be executed consistently throughout a series, powered by what professionals call the Series Engine. Rather than relying on conventional formulas, participants will develop a distinctive structural approach and engine tailored to their unique characters and creative vision, informed by personal instinct and story authenticity.
Creating a Comprehensive and Strategic TV Series Bible
The Series Bible functions as an essential companion to your pilot script, capturing the essential elements that give your show its distinctive character and vitality. This document represents the concentrated expression of what makes your series work; it serves as the blueprint that enables your show to captivate audiences and achieve longevity across multiple seasons. Students will study the critical components of an effective Bible and develop one specifically for their own series concept.
Personalized Professional Consultation
The course concludes with one-on-one consultation time with an experienced professional writer. During this session, students discuss their work, receive detailed feedback, and formulate strategic plans for their writing career trajectory.
