This course serves as a stepping stone between painting and sculpting. The beauty of sculpture is it can be enjoyed from all angles; this adds an interesting challenge for artists because we need to be aware of how the piece develops with a 360º view. The projects will help you develop the ability to create in 3D, become comfortable with contemporary portraiture, and learn how amusing it can be to be truly creative, not only in your approach to painting portraits but also through your use of materials.
You will create several 3D portraits in paper, cardboard, even using a brick, and paint features, details, and texture with acrylics. The instructor will give you the techniques for how to sculpt and paint a minimalist face in a Picasso-like contemporary approach. Picasso will inspire us to break away from realism and help us relax without the need for “perfection” - instead, we focus on structure and likeness while trying out this new medium. Explore sculpture and experience the state of complete freedom of expression.
If you’re interested in sculpture, this is a great introduction to experience what it’s like to create three-dimensional art, all with accessible materials. No need for specialty tools, a kiln, or clay - the supplies used in this course are materials you probably already have!
*Completion of the Essential Drawing Course is recommended
