Class Description

Description

Note: This is primarily a lecture class with some in-class exercises but not everyone will get to share their writing for feedback due to the seminar format.

Have you always wanted to write a personal essay but you don’t know where to start? Or have you dreamed of seeing one of your essays published in the New York Times or Salon? In this 1 Day personal essay class, NY Times Modern Love Alum and 2 time Moth GrandSLAM winner and Moth Host, Matteson Perry, will share his insight into securing this prestigious but elusive prize. Using fun in-class exercises, we’ll help you transform your bad blind dates and visits from unruly parents into insightful, compelling revelations. Through in class exercises, an informative craft talk, you will learn Matteson’s secret techniques for approaching this essay, including the unspoken expectations of the format, a compelling romantic hook and a crystal clear theme. By the end of class, you’ll have begun writing a kick-ass essay for your dream publication.

You’ll be well on your way to joining the ranks of the 169 Writing Pad Alums (16 of whom got into the NY Times) who have sold essays and articles with Writing Pad’s help!
