What you'll learn in this film production class:
AbelCine has partnered with the International Colorist Academy (ICA) to offer this advanced color design & DIT workshops aimed at everyone involved in designing the look and style of a project. In this two-day workshop, attendees will learn the skills necessary to work as a DIT, an essential and ever-evolving role on set. The workshop concentrates on the production of dailies, and all the tools, software and skills required to work quickly and efficiently. Along with the latest gear and techniques, the workshop will teach the artistry of the DIT.
Instruction starts with backing up camera files and goes all the way through to handing off a shuttle drive with finished dailies to the editor or post house. Participants will go through all the steps for themselves: from backing up on set, to syncing audio, color correction and applying LUTs, to delivering final files to the editor. Attendees will work hands-on, as if they were on an actual, working set.
To ensure that everyone has plenty of practical experience, class size is limited to 16 people. In a relaxed environment, Von Thomas will demystify the role of the DIT so that participants become more confident in the position.
Computers are provided for each student.

- Develop a firm understanding of the DIT role for TV and features
- Proper back up procedures for original camera media
- Monitor calibration
- Evaluating color and exposure via the use of scopes
- Live Grading on set
- Developing “looks” with the DP
- Using a gray card for reference and camera matching
- Using a color Temp Meter on set
- Basic use of color control surface
- The importance of setting proper white balance in camera
- Primary and best light color correction
- Syncing audio
- Learn to use DaVinci Resolve and Assimilate Scratch for color correction and deliverables
- Learn to create high quality compressed files for iPad and cloud delivery
- Use of cloud services for dailies upload and viewing
- Learn on set procedures working with camera crews, DPs, audio mixers, production and post
This workshop is for anyone who wants to learn DIT skills, as well as working DITs who want to refresh their knowledge and learn new techniques.
Refund Policy
If a participant is unable to attend for any reason, you may transfer registration to an alternate date or location, or use the full credit towards a different workshop.
You may also transfer enrollment to someone else, but you must provide the updated registrant information prior to the start of the class.
If unable to attend, you must notify CourseHorse within 48 hours prior to the scheduled start time.
We reserve the right to cancel or postpone classes in the event of low enrollment or forces beyond our control. If the instructor is sick or unable to attend, we will notify attendees 48 hours in advance of class to reschedule for a later date.
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
