Step into our chef's own kitchen for a cozy, hands-on bread baking class where comfort food meets craft! In this unique class, you'll learn the whole process of sourdough from starter to slice, along with a quick homemade berry jam and fresh butter to go with it.
Start by learning to read your starter — how to recognize one that's ready to bake with, and the signs of one that's gone too far — before scaling and mixing your own dough. You'll stretch and fold your loaf and shape a second batch into breadsticks, all while your chef demonstrates how to tell when dough is truly oven-ready.
While your bread bakes, you'll switch gears and whip up a quick berry jam from scratch, along with fresh butter (and a taste of compound butter flavors like herb and garlic). You'll leave with pro tips on starter care to keep the process going at home.
To finish, gather around for fresh coffee, warm bread, jam, and butter — and enjoy tasting the fruits of your labor together. You'll go home with your own dough to bake, some starter to keep, care instructions, and any bread or breadsticks you don't finish in class.
No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you don't already have them in your home kitchen. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as fun for the cooking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who's happier observing and assisting (or taste testing).
Please arrive on time — late arrivals may not be able to be accommodated.
Please note that class will be hosted in Chef Jaime's apartment. Chef Jaime shares her home with one small dog, who will be in another room throughout the class; however, this class is not suitable for those allergic to or afraid of dogs.
Coffee and an assortment of teas will be provided for your enjoyment. Guests are invited to BYOB (beer and wine only).
