What you'll learn in this basic asl class:
Level 1 ASL is also offered as an in-person class.

This is a 6 week session focusing on the introduction to American Sign Language and Deaf Culture. You will develop a strong basic ASLary (OUR word for vocabuarly) ASL Structure, syntax, and grammar. Will learn numbers 1-100, visual discrimination, spatial referencing, practice fingerspelling and begin to understand the use of space and gestures.
You will develop grammatical knowledge through our curriculum allowing you to immerse yourself in the world of ASL and Deaf Culture. You will be working with our online curriculum which takes to teaching our visual language to a whole new level and experience for the novice student.
You will have access to E-notes allowing you to practice at home. You will be introduced to interacting with the Deaf community, and begin your journey to enhancing your linguistic skills and cultural knowledge
Additional Fee:
Required $25 E-notes per semester to be purchased directly at SLC. The E-Notes will be emailed directly to the student right after class. It includes the Keynotes Presentation with notes for students, Videos with Dialogues and ASLary (Vocabulary)
Remote Learning
This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.
Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.
Refund Policy
CourseHorse will abide by the following refund policy as set forth by the partner:
If not canceled 7 days within the first day of class, no refunds. Classes can otherwise be canceled and rescheduled or refunded any time before this date.
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.

Loved learning the basics, and even started dreaming in some sign language!

i am sure the teacher was wonderful - she seemed dynamic and fabulous. but she screen shared throughout the lesson showing us a powerpoint with the topics we were studying etc. And it meant that her window on the computer was tiny so it was incredibly hard to see what the signs she was teaching us. And also as it was a silent class, it was difficult to know what we were doing at each moment. The powerpoint did give an overview, but it wasn't enough to make it understandable minute by minute. I would love to learn ASL, but i don't think I can do it over zoom in this way. I'm so sorry.
