Class Description

Description

Flowers represent ideal subjects for photographers at all experience levels. They are accessible subjects available in nearly any location, and they offer tremendous variety in colors, shapes, and textural qualities to explore and experiment with. However, the abundance of similar flower photographs makes it genuinely challenging to create distinctive, memorable images.

This comprehensive course takes you on an in-depth exploration of flower photography excellence, with expert photographer Kathleen Clemons as your experienced guide. You will learn everything necessary to capture compelling flower photographs that will impress your viewers and celebrate the natural world's remarkable beauty. Master the techniques to make your flower photographs visually stand out.

In this class, you will learn how to identify exceptional flowers for photography using visual observation, whether you want to create artistic interpretations or documentary-style images. Transform the flower into the main focus of your composition by eliminating visual distractions in the background. Gain confidence photographing both isolated flowers and expansive flower fields across all stages of the bloom cycle.

Whether your camera is a Nikon, Canon, Sony, or mirrorless system, Kathleen demonstrates all the essential tools needed for successful flower photography, from macro lenses and plant stabilizers to extension tubes. She addresses technical considerations such as f-stop selection and depth of field management, along with artistic decisions regarding composition, background selection, and macro imaging. The course concludes with an actual garden photography session, allowing you to observe Kathleen's process as she captures multiple angles and close-up details of diverse flowers and individual petals.

After this class, you will be able to:

  • Select the most appropriate macro lenses for your photography goals
  • Assemble a comprehensive and practical macro photography equipment kit
  • Create or locate ideal lighting conditions specifically for macro work
  • Position tiny subjects effectively within your frame composition
  • Configure aperture and exposure settings for maximum technical control
  • Command close-focus techniques while managing a limited depth of field
  • Photograph every flower variety with skill and creative confidence
