Rebecca Saltzman (New Yorker, McSweeney’s) will help you hone your comedic voice and find the format that speaks to your strengths, whether it’s political satire, comic monologues, faux opinion pieces or hilarious lists. Through fun in-class writing exercises, engaging craft talks and rigorous sample analysis, you’ll develop your stellar piece and workshop it to completion.
Rebecca will address the principles of comedy writing, how to turn a topic into a premise, and revising and punching up a draft. By the end of the class, you’ll have an 800 word, publication-ready humor piece as well as a solid plan for how to approach writing these pieces in the future. Experienced and beginning writers welcome. Searing wit not included.

How our online classes work:
Online classes can be attended from anywhere with an internet connection. You’ll be able to see and hear both your teacher and your fellow students. For the best experience, we recommend attending online classes in a quiet space, and using headphones or a headset.
System requirements
This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.
Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.
All sales are final and there are no refunds.
Credit may be offered based on class availability. If you can’t come to class, call or email us as far in advance as possible. We will do everything we can to fill your spot, but we can’t make any guarantees. Credit eligibility is not based upon your reason for being unable to attend a class; it is based upon the timing of your credit request and our ability to fill your spot. If we find someone to take your place, you will receive class credit minus a $25 processing fee for 1 day classes and $50 processing fee for long classes. In that case, your class credit will be good for a year from the original sign up date and will expire after that. Otherwise, you will forfeit your payment/payments.
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
