Class Description

Description

Spend 2 hours on Zoom in an intimate small group or personalized one-on-one mentoring session with E. David Luria, founder of the Washington Photography Society and an accomplished professional architectural photographer. David addresses the photography questions that consistently arise from students at all levels, such as:

  • How do I start a photography hobby, and what kind of camera should I purchase?
  • What advantages does an expensive camera offer compared to my smartphone?
  • What capabilities distinguish professional cameras from phone cameras?
  • What can a smartphone accomplish that dedicated cameras cannot?
  • Why would I use a tripod or phone stabilizer?
  • What does it mean to get "low and close" to subjects, and why does it matter?
  • How do I capture the true colors of stained glass windows photographed inside churches?
  • Where should I buy camera gear, online or at a physical store?
  • What are the most photogenic locations throughout Washington DC?
  • When is "auto white balance" appropriate, and when should I adjust it manually?
  • Why do my photographs come out blurry, and what mistakes am I making?
  • My landscape photos seem flat and uninspiring compared to what I saw in person. What adjustments can I make?
  • What is ISO, and why does it significantly impact my photos?
  • Sometimes my autofocus struggles, cycling in and out without locking. What's the solution?
  • Why are f-stop numbers so counterintuitive, with large numbers representing small apertures and vice versa?
  • My daytime shots look great, but nighttime photography produces blurry results. How can I improve?
  • My son has natural photographic talent and takes excellent pictures. How can I help him develop this gift into a serious hobby?
  • My daughter dances ballet, and I want to freeze her mid-leap, but my action photography keeps falling short. What suggestions do you have?
  • Why do many of my indoor photos have a yellowish color cast?
  • I'm interested in turning my photography passion into additional income. What are your recommendations?
  • I love photographing people, which brings happiness to them and to me. How can I refine these portraits?
  • Why should I venture into Manual mode when Auto feels safer and less risky?
  • Dust spots appear on all my photographs despite cleaning my lenses. What's the issue?
  • Holiday and family reunion photos are important to me. How can I make them more striking, and what's the best way to distribute them among family members?

What questions do YOU have about photography?

David notes, "I'm a Dad myself. And like many fathers, when I don't know the answer, I just make one up!" His friendly, approachable style makes learning accessible and fun.
