Class Description

Description

Master the fundamental posing techniques that every professional photographer must know. Learn to direct subjects confidently, create flattering images, and develop the coaching skills that transform good photographs into exceptional ones.

Posing is one of the fundamental skills that distinguishes amateur from professional photography. It's also the element that photographers have the least control over without strong communication and coaching skills. While you can choose your lenses, set up your composition, arrange your lighting, and refine images in Adobe Photoshop, working effectively with subjects requires focused attention and deliberate technique. This course teaches you how to guide subjects toward their most flattering expressions and positions, ensuring every photograph reflects both technical excellence and human connection.

What You'll Learn:

  • Body mechanics and postural principles for flattering poses
  • Posing for different subject types: individuals, couples, groups, families
  • The role of hands and arms in creating dynamic compositions
  • Facial expressions and directing genuine emotion
  • Working with your subject's self-consciousness and building confidence
  • Lighting and posing: how they work together
  • Clothing considerations and how they affect posing
  • Common posing mistakes and how to avoid them
  • Creating variety while maintaining flattering angles
  • Communication techniques that put subjects at ease
