Dabke (Arabic line dance) is a folk dance done throughout the Middle East by men and women alike, and is very popular in the Levant region (Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Syria) at parties, weddings, and most social gatherings. If you have been to an Arabic club or wedding in Chicago, you have probably witnessed dabke. It is also done by professional dance troupes.
This one-hour class will take students through some basic steps and information about Palestinian dabke. Dabke is a very active dance that requires jumping and stomping; and supportive, clean shoes or boots MUST be worn.
Those with knee or foot problems are advised to proceed with caution or do a little research via videos before signing up for the class to make sure you are able to participate.
