MakeSpace ARTS is a local, independently owned art school for kids and adults in Pasadena, California. The studio was founded in 2010 by local artists and father- daughter team Sara Hunsucker Jerome and J. Thomas Hunsucker. The main objectives of the studio are to promote a diverse and creative arts community and provide an increasingly important source of art education for adults and children.
MakeSpace ARTS kid's programming covers a wide scope, from traditional art media to specialized contemporary artist led workshops. Exploration, imagination and enjoyment of the process along the way are encouraged in every class and workshop. We avoid formulaic teaching methods and instead teach each student based on their unique strengths. Projects for kids include ceramics, recycled materials, assemblage, process painting, collage, sculpture and mold making. Our teaching philosophy for adults is similar as it is for kids. We provide our adults students the tools and guidance to communicate through visual art. MakeSpace ARTS Adult Classes are social, self-paced, and completely tailored to the artist's needs.
The 1100 square foot studio space is an excellent party venue and it is available on the weekends and afternoon for birthdays, meetings, and special events. Beyond classes, MakeSpace ARTS holds seasonal art camps for children. We host screenings, exhibitions, lectures, and guest artist workshops throughout the year.
