Class Description

Description

As part of our series of workshops on low light art photography inside museums, Washington Photo Safari is pleased to offer this exclusive look at a sensational new exhibit of paintings and sculpture by the famous Spanish artist from Barcelona, Joan Miró, now on display at the Phillips Collection museum. It is entitled “Miró and the United States.”

At the end of his life, Joan Miró (1893-1963) maintained “it was really American painting that inspired me,” so this exhibition traces the rich network of exchange between the Catalán artist and more than 30 American artists during the period between the 1940s and the 1960s, coinciding with the artist’s 7 visits from Spain to the United States. At this show visitors get their first glimpse of Miró’s American-inspired dream-like pictures, including “Somersault”, on view in this gallery.

On this one hour photo Safari – limited to 5 clients – WPS director E. David Luria will guide clients into taking photos of Miró’s work that accurately reflect their color and vibrance by giving tips in exposure and white balance settings, shooting on the Manual Mode. Photography is permitted inside this special exhibition!

Here are samples of images that clients will be able to get on this safari

For DSLR or mirrorless cameras, we recommend a 35 mm f/1.8 or a 50 mm f/1.8 or F/1.4 lens. Smartphones are also perfectly acceptable.

No tripods!

The safari’s goal is to teach clients how – when they travel – to take handheld pictures inside museums that accurately capture beautiful works of art that can be reproduced in one’s home and printed as enlargements on canvas or paper, framed and hung on the walls.

The safari is limited to 5 people and the fee includes admission to the museum.

Refund Policy

In the event that an instructor or the school needs to cancel last minute, students will receive a refund less a 5% non refundable registration fee.
