Become the architect, engineer, and designer of your very own world as you plan, build, and furnish a handmade wooden house from the ground up. You will tackle real engineering challenges along the way, including wiring working lights and fans, and constructing your own scale furniture.
This camp is designed for students ages 8 and up. Participants will work with a variety of tools and engage with design software and hardware such as laser cutters, as well as hands-on circuitry, wiring, and engineering concepts appropriate for this age group.
Notes:
Students attending for three days or fewer will work on an alternative, smaller house project rather than the full-week version.
Class Requirements:
Design Hive instructors provide all necessary tools and guide students through every activity with proper safety support. It is expected that all students will actively participate and engage with all tools provided. Please make sure this workshop format is right for your child before registering.
To take full part in this camp, students should be able to:
- Use full-sized scissors on their own
- Use a hot glue gun independently
- Tie a knot and a bow
What You Will Learn:
- Circuitry: wire a working light and fan to install inside your house
- Hand sewing: create a pillow and accessories to furnish your house
- Design and scale: build properly proportioned furniture for your finished house
What to Bring:
- Lunch (nothing that needs refrigeration or reheating; no kitchen on site)
- A reusable water bottle (filtered water tap available)
