This exciting camp explores the art of all things sneakers, beats and everything in between. Work through the sneaker design process as you develop a concept, explore material and color swatches, design and laser cut your logo, and embellish with colored laces, paints, stones and more.
We build our sneakers from the ground up, starting with rubber soles, then cut upper soles and tongues from vegan leather, hand sew, and add painting and embellishments! You get to design and build your very own sneakers!
This camp is a wonderful introduction to the design process, shoe making, and fashion design! We are designing and constructing one of a kind prototype using authentic, high quality materials. These shoes are not made to be worn (though they can be!), and your child may not receive a sole that is his or her size. This camp is all about the process!
Campers will also learn to record and edit beats using professional production software. We'll also experiment with using a Midi keyboard to layer in digital instruments and other elements.
Drop-In Campers:
You're welcome to register by the day! Please note that while we do our best to support all participants, campers attending fewer than five days may not be able to complete every project. Our full-week campers are prioritized to finish their work by the end of the session, and drop-in participants may miss key build or design steps.
Notes:
Our workshops are designed to be developmentally appropriate for the age range listed, social-emotionally and skill-wise. We want each child to feel empowered and successful, not frustrated. This policy also protects the camp experience of the students who are within the camp age range. ALL participants must be the appropriate age, as listed, no exceptions by the first day of camp.
Class Requirements
Workshop Expectations: We provide appropriate tools and help guide children through activities safely. Design Hive instructors have the expectation that ALL children will participate and use ALL provided tools. Please make sure that this sounds appealing to both you and your child prior to registering.
We use several types of tools in our maker workshops and camps.
In order for students to fully participate, we expect them to:
- Use full sized scissors independently
- Use a hot glue gun independently.
- Know how to tie a knot and a bow.
