Description

Develop techniques for photographing complex subjects such as sculptures and cascading waterfalls in twilight and low-light conditions.

This session provides valuable practical experience and specialized technical instruction in critical concepts, including "white balance" management, blended lighting situations, exposure correction, and ISO adjustment during evening and nighttime conditions at the Tidal Basin.

Professional photographer and WPS director E. David Luria leads this exploration through the technical difficulties presented by the monumental artworks and water features of the FDR Memorial, and the reflected likenesses of the Washington Monument, the MLK Jr. Memorial, and the Jefferson Memorial mirrored in the Tidal Basin waters. Discover methods for creating artistic motion effects in water through slower shutter speeds, and master techniques for composing powerful nighttime pictures of the Civilian Conservation Corps sculptural faces. Mr. Luria will demonstrate manual camera mode operation and proper white balance adjustment for optimal color reproduction.

Requirements include a heavy-duty tripod, masks, and maintaining appropriate spacing; enrollment is limited to six participants.

Optional equipment, such as lens filters or wireless shutter triggers
Appropriate clothing for temperature and precipitation conditions

Refund Policy

Cancellations must be made in writing via email at least 10 business days prior to Safari date to [email protected]
Cancellations received 9 business days or more in advance of Safari date receive a refund of 75% of the amount paid.
No refund is made for cancellations received less than 9 business days before the Safari date.

Washington Photo Safari operates rain or shine. A separate itinerary is followed on rain or snow days, utilizing landmarks with unique photogenic interiors, such as The National Building Museum, Union Station, The National Postal Museum, The Lincoln Memorial, and the Jefferson Memorial.

In the event that an instructor or the school needs to cancel last minute, students will receive a refund less a 5% non refundable registration fee.

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
