What you will learn:

• Practical instruction and technical knowledge about the artists’ materials. There are many ways to do the same thing and all will yield exciting results.
• Values do all the work and so we will spend valuable time learning to key your interpretation of subject and design. Grisailles are the best practice to start keying for a strong design; students are encouraged to complete different iterations during this session.
• Color gets all the credit! With the value work complete, students are instructed on color, schemes and temperature control to evoke that emotional response. A limited palette will demonstrate how to create harmony, light, space, and emphasis.
• Practice, practice, practice under the guidance of your instructor this day will keep you focused as we finish the paintings. This last day students will push to a new concept of abstraction in order move away from the technical drawing and toward an emotional impression and mood. Students will have the option to move to a fuller palette, or/and develop the other iterations created on the first day.
