Experimental Papermaking

Papermaking is traditionally a method of making surfaces for drawing, painting, and printmaking applications. Is this workshop, we address papermaking as a dynamic DIY medium for creating surfaces or finished sculptural results.

This workshop covers basic techniques of papermaking using house hold items. Students will be taught about the history of paper, the types of paper suitable for different purposes, and how to pull sheets from home-made pulp. 

The Do-It-Yourself technique includes: 

• Pulp Preparation - From making a mold and decal to grinding the collected papers into pulp, using a blender. 
• Sheet Forming - The technique of pulling of paper as thick or as thin as you fancy. 
• Pressing and Drying - The final stages of forming the paper. 

Are materials included and provided in cost of the class?
No. Students are encouraged to bring their own papers to recycle: fine art papers, as well as small natural objects, like flowers and leaves, and industrial paper products, like store receipts, and even money!
