Class Description

Description

Join us for an exclusive Masterclass with Hamilton Russell Vineyards, one of South Africa’s most southerly and sea-adjacent wine estates. This esteemed vineyard has pioneered viticulture and winemaking in the cool, maritime Hemel-en-Aarde Valley appellation, located just behind the historic fishing village of Hermanus.

In 1975, Tim Hamilton Russell purchased an undeveloped 425-acre property after an exhaustive search for the ideal site to produce South Africa’s finest cool climate wines from noble varieties. His son, Anthony Hamilton Russell, took over in 1991 and purchased the property in 1994. He focused the estate’s efforts solely on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, registering Hamilton Russell Vineyards as an Estate and committing to working exclusively with grapes from their unique terroir.

Today, Anthony and his wife Olive, alongside winemaker Emul Ross and viticulturist Johan Montgomery, are fully dedicated to expressing the distinct personality of the Hamilton Russell Vineyards terroir through their wines. With tiny yields and intense worldwide demand, their elegant, highly individual, estate-grown Pinot Noir and Chardonnay remain in very short supply.

What to Expect:

  • An in-depth presentation by Anthony Hamilton-Russell on the history and philosophy of Hamilton Russell Vineyards.
  • Tasting sessions of their renowned Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
  • Insights into the unique terroir of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and its impact on wine production.
